Forty-something years ago my sister was an English-As-A Second-Language teacher. Her students adored her and in return she adored her students. Her students found the joy in learning. They were nothing like those foolish high school students who would goof off and disrupt the class with silly antics. No. These people were there to learn and she was there to teach. A match made in heaven.
Well, there was another match being made in heaven because there was one student who had a particular fondness for Miss. Maureen. Akira Michael Ideta. The two fell in love and lived happily ever after. Until stomach cancer stole Akira from Maureen in 2020. I will always admire, respect and revere the proud Japanese man called Akira who asked that I paint his portrait shortly before his passing.
