“Scarlett With A Pearl Earring” wins 1st Place at the American Art Awards

This summer, by invitation, I entered three pieces into the American Art Awards. Much to my delight and surprise, “Pearl” took 1st Place in the 31st Category – Portrait of Someone Famous. The other two entries won in the 5th Category – Pastel;  The Cobbler took 3rd place and Flower Girl took 5th. I’m so excited!

This is my kind of art competition. The “judge” was not one person looking at hundreds of entries from all over the globe, but rather this was a panel of gallery owners. I seem to always walk away from art competitions saying, “What was he/she thinking!?” I wish the whole structure of juried exhibitions would change the one judge model and truly have a jury (as in many people) of qualified judges.

After the competition, several of the participating galleries have contacted me to have a show at their gallery. Wow! That’s so exciting! I think I need to build up a body of works before I do that. Maybe in 2011…?

  1. Nancy,
I am thrilled and happy beyond belief that you’re being honored with The People’s Choice Award! The people rule!!!! It is a stunning piece of art and The Cobbler deserves each and every accolade it receives. I was proud to attend the reception at the PSA’s award ceremony with the Conants. There were so many amazing paintings on exhibit; it was quite a feeling to hear other exhibiters and guests make so many positive comments to each other about my sis’s art! Yeah, I’m proud!!!

  5. Hi nancy, I must apologize, I should have asked you on Facebook whether or not Lisa Mona was even up for sale? I guess I just assumed that she was. My sister is very interested in buying the portrait if she is for sale. We were wondering igf you had a price on her yet? If you do, could you please let me know? Thank you so much and your latest works are just amazing. Keep up the great art work Nancy. You are going places girl! Love you, Shelley
