This is a self-portrait of the artist at 18! Home life was hard so the week after high school graduation I bought a car, got a driver’s license, bought a puppy and moved in to my own apartment. It was one full week!
Take a sneak peek at what I’m working on now. The entire painting will be revealed soon!
This is Marilyn nuzzling newborn daughter Akili at the Memphis Zoo, moments after birth. Did you know that the birth of a giraffe includes an 18′ drop to the earth for baby? Hello! Then just after the baby stands up the mother does the most unimaginable thing. She kicks her baby tumbling! And after baby [...]

This beautiful family of lions actually came from the zoo! No matter where they live, these marvelous creatures are regal and majestic and among my favorites in the animal kingdom.
Trimmed down a bit. He seemed lost in the foliage so I cropped it tighter to allow the subject to stand out. It’s always a little painful to cut away some of the painting that I worked so hard on and it looked pretty. Ugh
A wonderful opportunity has opened up for me to partner with World Vision*. When I was in California recently I attended a bible/book study where we read The Hole In Our Gospel by Richard Sterns, President of World Vision. The book was very good and extremely thought provoking. However, we all felt overwhelmed as we read about how [...]
My prayer is that my mouth would be used to speak blessings to others. This is what it’s like when you speak a timely word: Apples of Gold In Settings of Silver
This painting is of my Beautiful daughter, Bekah at one year old. She still approaches life with enthusiastic joy. Gotta love my Bekah Boo!
I love birds of prey. Especially the eagle. They are so powerful and majestic. May favorite book is about the Golden Eagle, called The Eagle Christian. It has a wealth of interesting facts about these amazing raptors as well as drawing the parallel that God intends for His people, to soar like an eagle.
My nephew told my sister and me that there was a family of peacocks living in a neighborhood near by. We grabbed our cameras and went wild shooting hundreds of pictures (so maybe I could get one good one out of the bunch!). This proud fellow posed beautifully for about 15 minutes. Sorry June. Not enough [...]

My Emmah. I love my Emmah. I love everything about her. If you met her. You would love her too! This is her baby portrait. She was 8 weeks old and NOT 100 lbs yet!
Raymond is a very good friend of our family. This kind-hearted man has the most beautiful skin and graciously accepted to “sit” for a group of us so we could paint him from life. What a trooper! Thanks Raymond!!!
Beloved Tiger

Some pictures you run across just need to be painted. This was one of them.
My beautiful daughter Meghan is a fabulous model! She’s “sat” for several paintings and is a real trooper. Once she sat for my beloved teacher June Holloway for three hours! That’s a long time to sit in the same place/position especially for a ten year old. But a little break here and there and a [...]
This summer, by invitation, I entered three pieces into the American Art Awards. Much to my delight and surprise, “Pearl” took 1st Place in the 31st Category – Portrait of Someone Famous. The other two entries won in the 5th Category – Pastel; The Cobbler took 3rd place and Flower Girl took 5th. I’m so [...]

The tobacco horn worm is fiercely hated by anyone who’s trying to grow tomatoes. They have a veracious appetite and if left unchecked, will devour an entire plant in a day or two. So why do I love these little critters so much (actually they’re pretty big – three to four inches!)? I am completely [...]
We need bees! The recent disappearance of bees at an alarming rate is both curious and scary. I hope we can find a way to get it together and LET THEM BEE!
This one was inspired by Proverbs 6:6. To quote the BLB.org, “The ant has been famous in all ages for its social habits, foresight, economy and industry. Collecting their food at the proper seasons, they bite off the ends of the grain to prevent it from germinating, and lay it up in cells until needed.” [...]
The best part of my job is getting to meet my subject(s). In this case, Teddy, a Great Pyrenees and Tessie, a Welsh Corgy are quite the unlikely pair. Picture Teddy, wise like Eeyore and slow to speak with deep-voiced words and always kind. Tessie, may be younger and smaller, peppy and more mischievous, but [...]
