This is the new site. Actually, I am really happy with it – excited about it’s potential – a little apprehensive about the commission work. Chris and his new partner Jon did some nice work. I think it was a true labor of love. With a self-managed site like this, there is a lot of [...]
(Pastel 9 x 12)
Welcome to my introductory personal blog. I’m so excited to have a website, even if it is something I need to learn how to maintain. I have to give a shout out to my beloved husband Chris, and his partner Jon, who built the site for me. I tend to shy away from all things [...]
They say if you bring home a tortoise plan on having him (or her! Or them!!!) for a very long time. As a matter of fact, they will probably outlive you, seeing as how the life span of these creatures can be well beyond 80 years.
The only problem with doing a self-portrait is that you have to look at yourself for a v e r y l o n g t i m e. This is something I do not care to do. That was the bad part. The good part is that I have my own keepsake of my kitty and me.
I love that we’ve made our new home in Texas, but at heart, I’m just a California Girl. There are many things that I miss about California: my family, the beach, my old church family, the beach, California Poppies carpeting the hills and did I mention I miss the beach!?
I am awestruck by the work of the Old Masters. I never tire of studying their works. I particularly loved Vermeer’s The Girl With The Pear Earring. In 2003, a movie was made about the famous painting, starring Scarlett Johansson. After watching the film (literally – it was probably 11:00 pm!), I was so inspired that I busted out my oils and got started.
I met Abigail as we were preparing for an upcoming missions trip. She and her family had recently returned from a long-term mission in France. When they came to the states, Abigail had to leave her classical guitar behind since she had no case and no means to have it transported here. I was deeply moved by this young girl who had left all that she’d ever known and couldn’t even do her craft. A number of families put our pennies together and presented Abigail with a gift certificate to guitar center. This is Abby enjoying her new guitar.
Painting from a live model who came to our Monday group.
This painting was inspired through cooperation with the Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends rescues thousands of animals every year and has a giant network across the country to help them find good homes. For many, the animals end oup at the 30,000 acre sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. One fortunate young one is named Charlotte. Charlotte was abandoned by her owners and ended up at Best Friends. She was our model here, photographed by Gary Alan Kalpakoff.
